Churchill Memorial UMC Quilt Ladies
In 2016-2017, a few of us heard about a quilt pattern entitled 'Women of the Bible'. Each block was designed to be about one woman in the Bible. We thought it would be a good thing to try, since we were making a quilt, as well as learning about some of the women in the Bible. Best of all, we'd have fellowship! When the quilt was completed, we decided to have a nice event beginning with breakfast. Carol Mullins (Quiet Whispers) came to share information about some of the women, play her guitar and sing songs. At the end of her program, we gave away our quilt. The $15 we asked for the event was then used by our church's women's group, 'United Women in Faith' to help support our numerous missions.
We then discovered there was a quilt pattern entitled 'Boys of the Bible'. Making that quilt became our next endeavor. Again, we provided breakfast and an interesting program with Carol Mullins, concluding with giving away our quilt.
One of the women of our church suggested that we make a new 'Signature Quilt' because the one we had was very old. Making a new Signature Quilt was the perfect thing to do during Covid since we couldn't get together. Each woman in the church was given a block for the quilt where she could embroider her name. That Signature quilt with 81 names, is now hanging in the sanctuary of our church.
Eight of us have now made seven quilts to give away and earn money to support our missions. Best of all, we have much fellowship! Please enjoy these photos of our group and some of our quilts.

Churchill Memorial has been supporting Bread of Life Outreach, or BOLO as it is known, for many years. This local organization's mission is "to feed the hungry and clothe the naked." It is located at 8745 Supervisor Avenue in Colden, NY. In 2025 it provided enough food for 52,785 meals to 170 families in Colden and surrounding rural communities. Some of our church women volunteer at BOLO and also at Gabe's on the Hill, a thrift shop of quality items including clothing and shoes for all ages, purses, jewelry, linens and household items. All revenue from Gabe's funds the BOLO food pantry.
